What are expediting bots?

Expediting bots are automated client programs that race through purchase steps at a speed and volume people cannot match.

They are the software that performs the rush, whereas expediting names the unfair behavior of finishing scarce steps first.

How it works

These clients can open many sessions, fill the same fields, and submit together when a sale begins.
The site sees traffic that looks busy and human until timing, repetition, and failed or unpaid outcomes show that people were not driving it.

Defenders raise the cost of each automated attempt, limit concurrency, and review clients that never behave like a reader.
Naming the software class does not require publishing how such a client is built or tuned.

Concrete examples

  • Hundreds of similar clients reach the payment step in the same second and crowd out ordinary browsers.
  • A client retries a sold out item continuously, creating load without a plausible human pause.
  • Sessions share an identical completion time for every field, which no group of shoppers would produce together.

Protective measures

  • Raise the cost of automated clients that try to race a limited sale, using effort that is cheap for a person and expensive in bulk.
  • Limit how many parallel sessions one client may open during a release.
  • Review clients whose timing never includes a human pause to read or correct a field.
  • Separate bot driven failure from genuine demand when you explain a sellout to customers.

How CDPCaptcha helps

Proof of work raises the cost of automated clients that race through purchase flows faster than people can.

CDPCaptcha is a self-hosted proof of work check in the browser, with no cookies, no tracking, and no picture puzzles.
It is made and hosted in the EU, in Germany, and the service is described at https://cdpcaptcha.com/.
